Weizmann Institute of Science

In 2023 we supported the work of the Weizmann Institute, a world-class research and education institution.

In parallel with its research activities, this Israeli institute provides high scientific education services and promotes scientific literacy in schools and among the public.

Today, more than 250 experimental and theoretical research groups work at the institute, in five different faculties: biology, biochemistry, chemistry, mathematics and computer science, and physics. The findings of their research, which has the overarching objective of benefiting humanity as a whole, have led to advances in medicine, technology and the environment.

The advancement of science in schools and society is another of the institute’s main objectives, and much emphasis is placed on promoting scientific education in schools and among the public at large.

Jeanne Nissim Psychiatry Day Care Pavilion

Our Foundation has supported the creation of the Jeanne Nissim Psychiatry Day Care Pavilion, a new psychiatric facility built at the Sheba Medical Centre in Tel Aviv, a global centre of excellence in healthcare. The Pavilion is named after Jeanne Nissim, wife of the founder of the Bolton Group.

The work, that began in 2021, has finished in December 2023, and the pavilion is scheduled to receive its first patients in 2024.

Surrounded by a garden, the Pavilion, provides a wide range of psychiatric day care services, enabling patients to avoid hospitalisation and continue living with their families. Services include psychiatric and psychological monitoring and treatment as well as nursing and social care. There is also  an area dedicated to physical and psychological well-being.

Sheba Medical Center management estimates that the Pavilion will allow the number of patients receiving psychiatric day care to increase to more than 30 percent above the facility’s current capacity.

The Psychiatry Day Care Pavilion will collaborate with other facilities at Sheba Medical Center specializing, for example, on psychogeriatrics, postpartum depression, autism spectrum disorder, and anxiety and depression disorders.

Jewish Resisters of Italy

Fondazione Centro di Documentazione Ebraica Contemporanea (Fondazione CDEC), an independent research institute for the promotion and study of the culture and of Jews in Italy, with particular reference to the contemporary age and the Nazi-fascist period, started in 2020, thanks to the support of Be for Education Foundation, the multi-year research project “Jewish Resisters of Italy”, which delves into the theme of Jews the Resistance and their contribution to the construction of democratic Italy.
Starting from mostly unknown events, the research project intends to reconstruct the role of Jews in Italy during the Second World War, not only victims but also protagonists of the resistance to Fascism and Nazism.
The research project develops in some territories of central Italy and specifically in the regions of Campania, Lazio and Tuscany and aims to expand to other Italian regions subject to German occupation and the Italian Social Republic during the two-year period 1943-1945.
An online portal will allow to consult a database with over 240 profiles including personal data and biographical stories of Jews who have chosen to join the partisan fight with all the relevant reference sources. Furthermore, through the digital exhibition “Living as Resistant” it will be possible to delve deeper into ten biographies of men and women whose stories have been identified as paradigmatic for courage and spirit of rebellion with original photographs, documents and podcasts.

Support for TOG

We have been supporting TOG – the TogetherToGo Foundation, a centre of excellence for the rehabilitation of children suffering from severe neurological disorders, since 2019.
Over the years, we have helped these children by providing specialist training for clinical personnel and rehabilitation projects with a focus on education.

In 2023, we helped TOG renovate the premises destined to house the Fragile City project in Milan.

The new centre will rehabilitate hundreds of children and young adults suffering from complex neurological pathologies and with special educational needs (SEN), helping them to study, and preparing them for careers and independent lives.

The Fragile City project will employ highly skilled staff to provide cognitive and educational support using the latest and most effective methods in the field of dynamic cognitive rehabilitation.

The new centre will also serve as a specialist training hub for clinicians and teachers working with disabled and educationally fragile children.

Support to the activities of Pane Quotidiano

Pane Quotidiano is an association founded in Milan in 1898 with the aim of providing free food aid to the poorest sections of the population and to anyone in a state of need and vulnerability. At the two facilities of the association in Milan, through the distribution of food rations, Pane Quotidiano welcomes and ensures basic food rations to over 4,000 people every day. Among its effects, the pandemic has generated an increase in poverty and the number of people in need of help has increased considerably. This implied an increasingly considerable commitment for the associations that work to ensure help in the most fragile contexts. Pane Quotidiano, in addition to receiving donations of products directly from companies, also deals with the recovery of fresh food not sold and / or consumed. To support this activity, through the Be for Education Foundation in 2021 we contributed to cover the purchase of a new vehicle for the recovery and transport of food.

A contribution to the most advanced technology for Buzzi

The Buzzi Foundation was born and works in support of the Buzzi Paediatric Hospital in Milan, investing in scientific research and advanced technology. The Foundation also aims to guarantee the accessibility of the latest generation treatments to all children. Inside the Buzzi Hospital there is one of the best centres for foetal therapy, at the forefront for the diagnosis and treatment of the main rare diseases and for prenatal therapies. Every year at the centre an average of 10 diagnoses, 400 fatal resonances and 90 foetal surgeries are performed every day.

In 2021 we have decided to support the “Healthy babies before birth” project, which aims to improve prenatal diagnosis, thanks to which it is possible to identify any congenital pathologies and rare diseases, intervening on the child before birth.

In 2022, we also supported the activities of the Buzzi Children’s Hospital through a contribution that enabled the purchase of a Doppler system for the evaluation of maternal hemodynamics parameters in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Concrete contributions to the most advanced technology to ensure state-of-the-art treatments and the best prenatal diagnosis for all children in need and their mothers.

Support to the oncological research

Since 2003, the Umberto Veronesi Foundation has supported scientific research in the oncology field, financing over 2,000 doctors and scientists, and 137 research projects to date; it also promotes health education and proper scientific dissemination. Since 2004, Bolton Group has supported the activities of the Umberto Veronesi Foundation.

With the purpose of preserving and continuing this tradition,  since 2021 we contributed to support some of the most innovative biomedical research projects. In particular in 2021 we supported two studies related to the treatment of lung cancer (monitoring of pulmonary nodules in high-risk smokers) and in 2022 two studies related to the use of emerging treatments such as radiomics and machine learning in Ewing’s sarcoma and osteosarcoma. In 2023 we supported two studies related to the prevention of women’s cancers.
